Janek,

How do you approach giving clinics? I haven't been to one of yours but I'm hoping to catch one in the near future! Also, what sort of topics do you always try and touch on and what are some of the things you try and accomplish in every clinic you give? Thanks again for everything.

I prefer the audience to dictate a clinics contents, that way they're going to get answers to questions that actually want rather than taking a chance on me having something to say that's totally what they're into.

But if everyone stays quiet (which happens more than you can imagine) I launch into some really important fundamental topics of music that I think should be covered and refreshed no matter what level a player is at.

I like to play to loosen up first of all, and there are normally some questions about what I've just played, and then the terrible gear questions which basically mean nothing at the end of the day. I can tell a room full of people what amps, pedals, strings, and basses I play and it won't help their playing at all. I normally talk about that up front, give a rundown of what gear I play, and then ask people not to ask questions about it that they really know the answer to already. And I ask people to think about music, harmony, melody, production, business, careers etc etc, and ask questions about stuff like that. Stuff I can actually talk about and possibly help people out with.
