Looks like he eliminated the push/pull VTC pot, but still has the concentric bass/treble pot...

Nice. I like that old style switch a lot... eliminates the concentric tone control, that is kind of a cumbersome design. No big deal, but if I was spec'ing a Sadowsky, I'd do what you did... in-line, separate bass and treble, and a micro switch for passive active.

Beautiful bass. I typically cringe at clear plastic guards, but that works quite nicely on your beautiful bass with that amazing top. Congrats!

I would use gaffe tape and not duct tape myself.
Gaffe tape sounds more "natural" to my ears.

That's actually incorrect. It is Gaffer's tape (sort of a nicer version of duct tape), and started in a tour of Holland in '81. Here's an interview where he speaks for himself, just this past July...

IMHO, no. Electrical tape is too stiff and fragile, and especially when you sweat a little it just doesn't work IMHO. The nice thing about Gaffer's tape, even over duct tape, is it actually does breath/wick somewhat, it's much more flexible so it will hold its place on your thumb a lot better, and it's adhesive works much better too (if you get the real deal anyway... it's kinda' expensive compared to regular duct tape).

I remember reading this article and trying both just out of curiosity (because I also found that other article). I could potentially get used to Gaffer's tape, but electrical tape just plain sucked in every way (as did duct tape).

IMHO anyway.

I use sports tape on my thumb for almost the same reasons he does.

I smacked my thunb too hard near the nail and side of the thumb and cut it open. (on another occasion I yanked my nail off of my point finger on my right hand "popping". That SUCKEDD!!!!!)
Our drummer had sports tape he wrapped on his sticks so I used that both times.
Plus I have this little bone spurr or something near the joint that hurts like hell sometimes. Wrapping it while I'm playing helps a bit.
Usually by the second set it's hurting and by the third it's kinda numb!

But yeah, electrical tape sounds artificial, like the Line 6 VariAx bass.

Gaffe or sports tape sounds the most natural to me.
Especially when using a pick....

Yeah, that would work well too, for the same reasons... breaths, flexible, high quality easy to remove adhesive, durable.

That's right, I forgot about that, and I've seen lots of drummers do this... especially when playing out on hot days.

Gaffer's tape is the shizzle. I keep a roll of it in my little "junk" box. I've never taped my thumb, but I have taped about everything else. you'll see a few rolls lying around almost any stage area.

The two biggest advantages to gaffers over everything else is one, it is very easy to tear, and it tears very straight along either axis. And two, it doesn't leave any adhesive residue on anything when you remove it.

It's pretty amazing. It'll stick to almost anything. I've taped mic cables to every stage surface you can imagine with it. The only thing I don't think it would work on is grass.
