I had a VM4 with Delanos and I found the P pickup very nasal sounding with the reverse style position and ended up putting a Sandberg big pole in it which I much preferred.

I have a (probably wrong) theory that the Sandbergs are made by Delano to Sandberg's spec to suit the pickup layout.

The Delano's I had in my old TM4 sounded well balanced so I can understand why you liked them.

That's one theory. There's another floating that Delano is not too happy with Sandberg for making thier own pickups now off Delano's designs

The Sandberg P pickup, at least, is a radically different sounding pickup to the Delano (much more open sounding) so I'm sure the motive was not just to produce an "own brand" cheaper version.
They did carry on using Delanos in the TM and other non-California basses.

I remember you mentioning this before. Do you find the Darkglass works better with the Delanos than the standard Sandberg preamp? I ask as I feel like my TM4 (with Delanos) needs more adjustability in the mids. I was going to go down the route of swapping pickups but I feel like the Delanos should be good enough and the Darkglass pre-amp specs are intriguing.

Yes, I like more Darkglass than stock Glock preamp with Delanos. Darkglass have bass and 2 mids instead of bass and a treble on Glock. I found it much more usable with bass guitar having a two different mids than the treble that's just hiss all the time.

One stacked pot instead of regular single one.
Volume, Pickup selector, Bass/Low mids, Hi mids-Tone pot in passive mode.

Just found out Sandberg makes a 35 inch scale 4 string bass. Anyone have any recordings/videos of one tuned BEAD that they can share, specifically if you have one thats not the one with the darkglass preamp, im more into passive basses so it seems I'd be interested in the California TM or the TT. Thanks

Lobster used my old Grand Dark for this. Not in BEAD but probably the only video you're going to find of a 35" four string
