clueless about direct out recording

pretty basic stuff...apologies if this has been answered (many) times before, i've never looked in this forum.

um i have a backline600 head that has a direct-out...and i want to record on garageband...wat kind of cord do u need for this? like a direct-out to USB (funny if thats the actual name). where would u get one of them? are there any issues regarding watts or ohms that need attention, or is the signal from the direct-out already computer input friendly?

another question...when u have something in the direct-out, will the head/cabinet still work like normal? i think it does, but its always better to be certain.

It depends on what you have as the soundcard for your computer.

You could try going from your direct out to the line in on a soundcard.

Is the direct out an XLR? or is it a jack socket?

Should be easy enough to get what your needing tho, XLR to 1/8th jack for instance.

yea its an XRL...

my computer of choice is a macbook pro

the computer isnt a problem, i've recorded on it before with a converter box (which i no longer have). so i need an XRL to USB i guess. my concern is that the signal from the direct-out will be "live" sound rather than "record" sound. i want to be totally sure my amp/compy will not be damaged by this.

wat im really asking is if i need a converter box between my head/comp, or if i can plug a direct out straight into the comp
