I have a '79 Stingray that is string-through only; will EB cobalt flats be long enough? Those slab bodies aren't exactly thin!

Cobalt flats and string-through body

If your Stingray is a 3+1 I would presume that they would be long enough. I've got them on my Yamaha TRBX605 34" scale, but a toploader. I'd have no worries about the E and A strings, and I suspect that the others will be long enough. I typically cut the strings two peg lengths longer than the post they go on. Why don't you call Ernie Ball and ask them how long the strings are?

I'm sure the OP will find your replies helpful and interesting. I didn't know the string length. BTW... I can tell from the headstock that that's a nice PBass. Do you play it much now that you have your 505?
My P bass is 2014 Am Std, a classic sunburst/tort/rosewood. Ironically, when it was wearing a set of flats for that classic sound, it was only getting about 10% of the play time, while my Yamaha was seeing most of the action.
Now that I've gone back to the GHS Pressurewounds, I'm hoping to get the P bass back in action a little more often.
I'm having a similar thing with the EBCF's on my 605. The strings just give it enough punch that these pickups need. My Jazz4 is in the closet and my Jazz5 with Aguilar/Audere upgrades (photo in avatar) gets the least play time now. Even my BTB675 isn't getting as much love as it did before. And to think, I almost returned the 605.
That's super helpful, thanks! The GHS precision flats it has on are 38", so the cobalts should be fine, fingers crossed.
I'm just a bit weary from when I spent £50 on Elixirs and they were too short for my Stingray Classic
I've strung a dozen basses with EB Cobalt Flats, and at least three of had string-through only bridges. They should work fine on your Stingray, unless is some king of "mutant" Stingray with a body that's significantly deeper than normal Stingrays.

I have never been a fan of string thru body … especially for flats … there is a school of thought that string thru body increases the chances of the string breaking
Not with this set. I've had them on and off again through the ferrules three times now. Great strings for that.
Bear in mind that this particular bass (Yamaha BB735A) strings through at about a 45 degree angle.
La Bella produced some strings a long time ago that were prone to breaking when strung through, and they displayed the information on the packet. I have used EB Cobalts, Chromes,TI's and Fender Flats on my strung through Basees and have never had one single string break.
