Double Bass Coda Bluetooth Page Turner

Finally getting tired of printing out charts and trying to keep them straight on a music stand and am going digital! Right now I’m trying to decide between the Coda mini and the regular Coda Stomp pedal. I’ll probably just be using it to turn pages in pdf charts, (although I admit that I don’t know what I don’t know and there may be other cool usages that either of these pedals are more appropriate for). Most charts I have to deal with are 1-3 pages long, though occasionally I’ll get charts that are longer. Am I correct that the regular Coda Stomp pedal ($160) has two foot switches, one for page forward one for page backward, while the mini ($70) has just one (one click forward, two clicks backward)?

Any thoughts on which one to get, given my intended uses?

Will you be putting the pedal on a pedalboard? I see double bass sub, so I assume not. If not, then the extra weight of the Coda Stomp might be worth it. I have had a few page turners over the years. The lighter weight/smaller ones like to move around if you do not have them mounted on a pedalboard.

Of the ones I have had, the Coda Stomp is my favorite (previously owned PageFlip Firefly, AirTurn BT500 2 and 4 Button versions). Main benefit of Coda is being able to quickly switch button modes (others can do it, but not through an easy to read dedicated button).

Edit: Other difference is how the devices are powered. Coda Stomp is 9V power supply or 9V battery. Stomp Mini is a rechargeable USB C setup. Eventually the rechargeable battery will wear down and have less battery life. No idea how long that will take so may be a non-issue.

Yes; not at all a pedal guy!

Since I play mostly standing up, ergonomics ist most important for me. I need to have weight on both feet and know where the switching areas/buttons are. None of the page turners support that, so I modified an AirTurn PED getting a round post in the middle where I can put my foot with weight on without touching a switch. Angling the foot left or right activates the switch. A bit unpleasant if having weight there for a complete set, also depending on the shoe, but I can switch reliably that way.

Regarding battery or built-in rechargeable I strongly recommend the battery.
A built-in battery needs time to recharge and this can get highly problematic if the device runs out of power on stage. A battery needs to be at hand and still takes some time to replace, but less than recharging.

On the other hand, the battery in the PED (CR2032) is very difficult to get out of the holder. So check how easy it really is to change the battery on the fly.

And the device should switch when pressed down, not on release like the chinese M-Wave two button switch.

Buttons are often loud when pressed down. The PED and PEDpro are very silent and suitable for more quiet acoustic music.

Which app are you using to display your PDFs? If you use forScore Pro, you can turn pages with head movements or facial expressions (on certain devices). It is currently $14.99/year, and worth it for this and several other features.

+1 for the AirTurn brand: Pedpro/500 is most portable BUT the PedDUO (PEDPro too) is dead silent.

'Silent action' is important if you'll be doing and stage/pit work. A seemingly silent/lowlevel click will sound like a firecracker in a quiet theater 😉

PS> Avoid a single button turner. While you're playing, your ancillary gear should not take your attention away from the music. Look at turners with at least two buttons ◀️▶️.
