just do not power up a cold tube amp. bring it up to room temperature (an hour? 2?) before powering on.

i exercised this rule on tours and never had problems.

Spent the first 20 years of my life in Minnesota. Cold weather didn't seem to be a problem as long as you arrive with enough time to let all your instruments and gear warm up to room temperature before powering up and playing. What seems to cause more of a problem is the condensation caused by going from cold and dry to warm and humid and back again. Could find the pots in your bass/amps getting rusty/scratchy after some time, usually a few years. Mostly you just have to get to your gigs a little earlier and let all your equipment come up to room temperature and then power it on and let it warm up to operating temperature.....an excellent opportunity to get to know your waitress...

I've never had a prob. 30 yrs of tube amps....... not a worry!
