Double Bass College Auditions 2007-08 Already?!?

It is not that bad. The school is just the right size in that it is big enough to play some good rep, but small enough that you get to play that rep. Not sure how it is now with the new teacher, but when I studied with Buddo it was a great place for me to get an undergrad.

I am currently enrolled at Baylor as a freshman performance major.
I did have the honor of taking lessons from Buddo before he left, and he was great... but Dr. Ostlund is outstanding! The symphony is fun; like Cfederle said it is large enough to play real rep and pull it off (Stephen Heyde is a great conductor!). The bass studio is/will continue to blossom with Dr. Ostlund.
Come give Baylor a look!

Yeah, I think that's the most likely school for me because of the teacher. My teacher(Lloyd Goldstein) highly recommends him, so does anybody have any comments on Dr. Ostlund besides "outstanding" because I've heard that one a lot :)?

You should definetly try Julliard, Mannes, and Manhattan.
This past week I visited New York and had a lesson with Orin O'Brien. She is a great player and person. Also this year she did not even have any incoming freshman in her studio. So if you have the chops you probably won't have a hard time gettin in.

Chicago Civic Orchestra and you're as old as I am!? Man, that's impressive. I'm auditioning for Juilliard too, so does anybody know how MSM's symphony is? Because I definitely don't want to go to a school where the symphony is "not that bad". :eyebrow:

If anyone from Connecticut wants a school that you'll get a lot of attention and a good teacher try Uconn. At first I was sceptical but I see my teacher more than most people would believe. Sometimes we end up having two hour lessons just because we got into something and didn't want to stop. Plus he gives us an extra hour at the end of the week and he comes to every orchestra class and plays a song with us along with conducting one. If you're in CT and want a cheap undergrad with a lot of "bang for the buck" give it a thought. The classical bass program basicly just started, they have Kenny Davis for Jazz and now Scott Chaurrett for classical. Give it a thought.

I'm a student at CIM with Dimoff and Bradetich. If you want to get a good rounded bass education with a balance of orchestra and solo rep, then CIM is definitely the best place to come. Everyone knows that Bradetich is amazing, especially at the solo stuff. He and max work great together. max knows his stuff when it comes to orchestra rep, and you also take rep class with charles carleton, a young former julliard student whos in the cleveland orchestra now.

Whoa!! Jeff Bradetich remains at CIM? Who's teaching classical bass down at North Texas State, Jeff Bradetich's former post?

yeah Bradetich flies to Cleveland every two weeks and gives all students a one-hour lesson and then teaches a solo class. at the beginning of the semester the class mainly focuses on his technique packet (and some of Max's warmups) but will switch to a solo class about 3-4 weeks into the year.
