Double Bass College Auditions

My first response is: Ask the school(s) you are auditioning for.

Is this for fall 2018 or 2019?

My experience tells me that decisions for fall 2018 are completed. Those students likely submitted prescreen auditions Nov/Dec of last year, then perhaps were invited for live auditions Feb/Mar of this year.

If this is for Spring 2019 or Fall 2019, I would contact the school(s) you are interested in. Many post audition repertoire requirements.

Juilliard is something like:
1) ONE movement from the Bach Cello Suites
2) A movement from the standard solo literature or the 1st movement of a standard concerto (Dragonetti, Vanhal, Bottesini, Dittersdorf, Koussevitzky) including published cadenza, if applicable. To be played with piano accompaniment, if appropriate
3) TWO standard orchestral excerpts of the applicant's choice
4) ONE 3-octave scale and arpeggio of the applicant's choice

Your teacher should be guiding you.

I can tell you what I played at my audition at Purchase Conservatory ( for Tim Cobb)a few months ago.

Menuetto 1 from Cello Suite 1

Brahms 2 (reh E)

Othello bass solo

2 octave Ab major scale (arpeggio)

2 octave d minor scale (arpeggio)

4 octave g arpeggio

If I could do it again, I'd play menuetto 1 and 2 ,
And maybe vivaldi Sonota 3

A lot of it depends on your ability, and like said before, your teacher should guide you through it
