Just an FYI, I picked up my NC-410 used for a hair over 400 clams, and I think that might even be a little high. There are quite a few out there, and they aren't too hard to come by.

(again)I got a GK 400RB IV 210 for £410 (like what, $650?). Great so far. Can add a cab to get more power, but it sounds great, loads of useful knobs for shaping the sound, and looks the business. It punchy and clear.
To be honest, I haven't really pushed it, and it's too new to really comment on the reliability and gig worthiness.
The top handle looks weird though, It's secured on a vent plate. And it's quite heavy (the heavy side of 60lbs). It doesn't have a headphone input, but a XLR input, and -14db input for active bass. Has effect loop, mute button, and a clip led. So pretty regular stuff. Oh, and it's tiltable, that's how I use it for practise.
I would also look at ashdowns. I think I should have, but I'm well happy with my RB combo.

I mean, pawn shops of course... but I really hate the pawn shops down here. The further south you go, the worst pawn shops are (in my experience). Alaska and Montana had awesome pawn shops, but I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. . . land of the rip-off pawns.
After my last class, I'll be heading to The Perfect Bass shop, GC, and Brook Mays (which is liquidating all of their stock), so I should be in for a few good deals. But I still don't know where to find good used amps.

I didn't get to check out the Ashdown either, but I can't find anything wrong with it. Everyone who owns it seems to be pleased with it. Yorkville and Carvin are HIGHLY recommended. . . Yet I still haven't had an opportunity to test them out.
Nemesis was a little sterile, yes. I didn't find anything special about the NC210, but I saw The Perfect Bass selling the RS410 for a good price. I didn't see it in the store, but it's listed on line. From what I could see online, it didn't look bad, but if anyone could throw some info my way, I'd appreciate it.
What I DID see in The Perfect Bass store was an excellent stack: Hartke 3500 head and an awesome Eden 210. I was very, very impressed. I'm leaning most toward this stack than anything else so far.
The Ampegs were very dissapointing. I think I had high expectations for the Ampeg combo's, and they didn't deliver. They were very quiet, and the tone - while it was good - wasn't the best I'd heard. I decided that while they were decent, I could find better.
The Gallien Krueger didn't appeal to my tastes very much either. It was too gritty. If I still played in a speed metal band, I'd be all over it. But I ned something a little more. . . friendly. I'm looking for a warm, clean tone, and the GK's didn't seem to have what I was looking for. They do, however, have their place. Nothing against GK. It's just not what I was looking for.
I loved the Bassman's tone. Loved it. However, I've heard far too many stories about Fender Amps' poor craftmanship to gamble on an amp. I'm sorry that I had to make a decision based on that, but I'm positive that Murphy's Law (who is very fond of messing with me) would screw me over if I risked it on the Bassman.
I wasn't impressed with the SWR. It had some cool versatile functions, but it wasn't what I was looking for.
In Guitar Center I ended up trying to Line 6 (don't laugh), and it held my attention. It was nice and loud (esp. after Ampeg), and I really enjoyed the different sounds. It was very versatile. While the modeling wasn't quite "spot-on" it didn't rub me the wrong way. I really hated the Grind sound, but the rest weren't bad. I think the part of my brain that craves for effects may have gotten the best of me. It had a good punch, and was fun to play with... I'm just afraid it's too much of what I don't want and not enough of what I do. I've yet to see this amp mentioned on this forum, so I'm guessing it's held in pretty poor light. Is this a serious amp, or just a toy?

I really can't see you going wrong with the Hartke/Eden combo, especially if you like it! Worst case scenario if it doesn't work out is to dump it and get into something else....
That's what I was thinking. It's impressed me the most so far. I didn't care for the bass that I was playing through it, but it got very loud and very deep. I'll experiment more with it soon.

Be lucky you got to try as much as you did. All I have here to try is Fender, Crate, Peavey, Ampeg and Ashdown. Unfortunately, on the brands I would like to try here, they don't have any models that peak my interest, so yeah....basically we have nothing in this little town to really test-drive anything... 
I just got my Yamaha BBT500H and 2 BBT110s cabinets. So far so good in the home office test. Will use them at Church this Sunday. It seems to handle the B string just fine. It gets pretty darn loud for 1x10 cabinets, but nowhere even remotely close to my DB750 + GS410.
I noticed hiss from the tweeters, but the head has a built-in limiter that seems to do the trick.

i own the ampeg b200r. Great amp. Love the thing to death. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. If you like old school vintage tone, this is your beast.
