Coming back from injury

Hello, Talk Bass:

I'm hoping to get some useful feedback on getting back to playing once I'm cleared to do so after upcoming reconstructive surgery. My left shoulder will be having two rotator cuff tendons and a biceps tendon reattached. I'll be about six weeks off of the instrument.

How many have you run into similar issues? What were some of the effective things you did to recover quickly? What didn't work? Any advice would be great.

Three days out of surgery and no way I'm going to get an instrument in my hands for another month. Thanks for the advice to work on other musical ventures. I've taken to my iPad and writing drum parts to play along with once I'm healthy. I've also asked help from my daughter to get my heavy old bass in my lap and work on strictly right-hand technique; this is something I should have been doing for a while but not circumstances have provided an opportune time. @Skeezix: I'm practicing my doctor's and PT's plans to the letter (the PT is kicking my butt!))

Good! The PT will not be pleasant right now, but it will make a huge difference in the long run.
Matter of fact, I start PT next week for a chronic ankle injury. The outcome of this will determine
what happens next.
