compare these... opinions please!

smcd, which G & L do you play? or have you played?

I have an '81 L-1000, '82 L-1000, '81 L-2000E, '93 ASAT, '01 ASAT semi-hollow, '97 L-2000. I used to own an '82 L-1000 with a mahogany body that I wish I didn't sell.

Every one of those basses are awesome. I think G&L improved quality and design as time passed, and are a hugely underrated manufacturer. You used to be able to get used US-made G&L's for short dough. Not so much these days.
 
I think the L-2000 is probably a better all-around sort of bass. The Stingray is a very aggressive (to me) sound that might work really well for heavy music. I'm the kind of guy who plays over the neck pickup 99% of the time. On a Stingray (single HB) there is no neck pickup, so if you're always playing near the bridge there's less chance of muddiness in a low tuning.

This is all IME and IMO. :smug:
