Complete new Rig?

I have an Ampeg SVT 3 Pro head (450 watts) and an Ampeg 6x 10 cabinet (600 Watts). For some reason i cannot get the right amount of bottom and presence with this setup no matter what eq settings I try. Is my head simply underpowering my cab?

Ive played the head trhough a 2x 15 cab, and still didnt get that live "feel it in your chest" thump (rock music). I am planning on selling the head, and trying something with higher wattage, but I am not playing MSG here, just rock clubs, shouldnt 450 watts be sufficient? I am not too well versed in the ohms/ wattage conversions either. Any suggestions?

before you do that, what bass are you playing through it and what eqs have you tried?

i play an ampeg b2r through a avatar 4x10 and theres so much punch its unbeleaveableeeeeeeee

i turn down my trebb to like 6 or 7o'clock, my bass up all the way, maybe a little lower. mids around 9 or 10 o'clock.

if that doesnt work for you i dunno but im sure someone can help you out, i wouldnt think your rig is the problem, just maybe how your using it.

For shows, the B2R actually ran out of gas. Just bought a QSC RMX 1450

900 watts should be good, and I can add another cab if I gotta.

trade the SVT3 in for an SVT4 or even B4r. Run your new amp mono bridged into that cab.I used to have the B4r into 610hlf set up and it didn't lack anything...well except someone to help schlepp it around.

If you want that "thunderous punch in the chest rock tone", I would suggest the SVT 2 PRO. You can get any sound you want out of it. Growly, punchy, low, great clarity. It's an all-tube amp and will hit much harder and much louder than the 3PRO can do. But....back to the 3 PRO.

I hope you are not using the Ultra Low button on the 3 PRO.....are you? If so disengage it. All it does is kill the mids and ups the lows a little. This could be the reason you hate the 3 PRO. Do a few searches on SVT 3 PRO problems in the forum and you can find many tips on getting a good sound with that head. I have used the head before and it gets plenty loud if you keep the mids in your sound - and you don't boost the lows to insane proportions.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. CB56, what do you mean by mono bridging?....
Both of those amps have stereo power amps aftre the pre amp instead of the usual mono power section like your SVT3pro and the majority of bass amps. I used to won a B4r. You can either run speakers from each side of the power amp at 350 4ohms per channel or combine the two power amp sections together for 1000 watts at 4ohms. That's what I did with my B4r 610hlf setup and it sounded great. Unfortunatley my old back didn't like lifting that heavy setup.
