I'm looking for thoughts on what kind of compressor pedal to add to my rig. I'd like to set up as follows:
Bass --> OD pedal (eg sansamp bddi) --. compressor --> power amp.
The drive is set so that at instrument volume 4, I have no distortion, and I can control the amount of distortion simply by turning up the instrument volume. Of course this makes the output louder, which I don't want, so the compressor should be set so that it keeps the output volume the same, no matter how hard I drive the preamp. It would also be nice if it didn't chop the hard edges off the tone, as I like to play with fingernails, fret clank etc.
I'm fairly comfortable with the theory of compression, but getting it right is something of a black art to me. Also, a lot of pedals only have 1 or 2 controls, with the rest fixed. It would nice if this pedal was something of a one trick pony, easy to set up for the job I want it to do.
