I have primarily been playing guitar for several years but with the breakup of my last band Im going to shift a lot of focus to bass. This is not a consolation, I enjoy playing bass and it will provide additional opportunity. Anyway
I have had an SWR SM-500, Pedulla Rapture 5 string and Carvin 2x10 Neo for several years and been happy with them (fairly limited use during this time). I wanted to get a large cabinet to make sure I had enough for any gig I might land. I decided on a 6x10 for several reasons and ended up buying an NV610 from another member here.
Now that Im playing bass a lot in prep for auditions, Im starting to think I dont like my SWR so much. I think I would like more low end attack and grind than it offers. I like it at low volumes but at higher volumes it seems mushy and lacking definition. I am a big proponent of buying US (just not China, Malaysia, Korea, etc.) And am considering the Mesa M6/9, GK RB1001 or GK MB800 (maybe wait for an 800 Fusion). I will be playing in the rock genre perhaps a little blues perhaps country. I may get into metal but only into the slower, grinding varieties, no speed metal nothing heavier than say Soundgarden or Iron Maiden.
Ive read a thousand opinions but am still looking for more input if anyone wants to drag out their soapbox. Every once in a while someone will say something you havent heard yet.
Will the M9 be too powerful to safely run the cab long term? I dont go over half volume.
