Considering SB5000... thoughts?

I've always liked the concept of the "super Jazz 5'er" and this new Carvin has me quite interested.

Alas I haven't tried one... yet

Here are my questions for those in the know

I play in a noisy environment where single coils just don't cut it.
1) Do the humbucking J's really take care of 60 cycle hum? Do they have much less high frequencies?

2) How noisy are the electronics in terms of hiss?

3) Is the sweepable mid very useful or is the bass/treble controls enough for most situations

I like the mid sweep quite a bit. I don't find the pickups to be terribly noisy.

I have the stacked humbuckers in my older LB-75 and they do NOT have 60 cycle hum. My bass is 18 years old so I'm not 100% sure if they are still using the exact same model but mine are quiet.

The electronics are also quiet. No discernable hiss.
Mine's too old to have the midrange control so I cant tell you anything about that feature directly.

I do have another bass that has a Bart pre with switchable mids and I gotta tell you- I love boosting the low-mids. Its almost like having another volume control because my sound definitely gets louder without getting boomy.

Yeah, I have a Bongo and the low mid knob is crucial

sweepable mids are a great idea, but it looks like it is at the expense of going passive... I wouldn't mind so much if the electronics are dead quiet

I have two SB-5000's, fretted &fless, and they are wonderful sounding instruments. I had several boutique bass that were great, however, I have sold them and just have the Carvins... couldn't be happier.

An enthusiastic +1! I've had my SB5000 since July and it kills.

I understand Carvin cannot keep up with the demand..... that's a good problem to have, especially in this economy.

I just listened to Ed Friedland's review on You Tube and checked out a few other Vids. WOW!! I think Carvin may have found their calling! KILLER SOUNDING JAZZ! And I'm Sure Killer Price!

I agree you can't find a better jazz-type bass on the market including custom options and price range, I have two and have convinced 3 others to order them after hearing mine including one lucky fellow who has an endorsement. Honestly all my other basses have been put in the shed, except I do give my 7 string a whirl now and then because some of my material was written on it.

+1! Carvin has really made big strides in the bass gear world! Try their new BX500 amp and Micro Bass combos. Those are killer too. Go Carvin!

Yeah... i've owned an SB5000 since June and it is the best sounding jazz bass ive owned.. And i've owned plenty of Fenders - active and passive.. w/ fralins, emgs, custom shop overwounds... you name it... This carvin bass beats it all! It just has it all.. all the cool vintage AND the great modern tones.. Ed Friedland's teaser youtube review illustrates it well. LOVE the bebop tone!!
