I'm not positive but I believe I read that he started using Gensler strings exclusivity startimg in 2010

I read this on his website? Not sure.

edit: ...And if my memory serves me correctly Reid Anderson of The Bad Plus plays plain gut DG over Spiro W EA nowadays.

Bad plus was supposed to play at a club that I'm tight with the owner of. Contract ended up falling through BUT long story short he was gonna use my bass because my setup was almost exactly what his contract asked for. His list said spiro E and A, and either velvet anima/Garbo D and G or I believe evah tops. The velvet animas sound pretty gut like, but less temperamental.

In the classical world, there are tons of players playing old music on original or replica instruments set up the way they may have been at the time.

Bozo Paradzik and Nabil Shehata (I think) are using Genssler's wrapped guts.

I know until his stroke, Rinat Ibragimov was using custom ordered Eudoxa solo strings.

just saw Ing last weekend, he had plain G, D and A strings, not sure what the E string was.
Strings are way off the board but it was quite easy to play, it was his ply removeable neck bass, not very loud or resonant but that probably makes it amplify well.

Wow, great bass, great player. I use spiro solos but I've always been able to get a great arco tone from gut!
