Contest "vote solicitations"

What is TB's policy regarding posting a thread to ask for votes when someone's band is in a musical contest to win a spot in a gig? It's not a charity issue, which is already addressed, but it is something that some people may frown upon. Shamelessly plugging one's band may rub someone the wrong way, one never knows.

I joined a band and one of the guitarist's dreams is to play Summerfest, one of the biggest gigs in the Midwest. To that end, our band has submitted a video in their "Land the Big Gig" contest.

I don't want to violate the policies, but if it's allowed, I would like to post about it, letting the user determine whether voting in the "contest" is something they'd like to do. To vote, one has to "register", but the user does not have to register to just view the videos

The contest, besides benefitting the band, is a way for Summerfest to cull email addresses as well as mailing addresses, which is about the only thing I don't like about the contest.

It doesn't take a degree in IT to know that they're doing that to send out advertisement, which a lot of people consider spam. That's why I wanted to check out it with the admins, before I posted anything about it.

Please let me know and I'll act accordingly.

I don't see any problem with you posting it once, just don't be spammy and keep bumping it.

People can decide whether they want to register to vote or not.
