control cavity/access plate on hollow body?

why isn't this a thing?

I've gone a little mod happy in the last few years, and due to personal aesthetic choices, all my instruments are either hollow or semi-hollow, and every once in a while i think, gosh it would be nice to just unscrew a plate on the back when i want to get at the wiring, instead of pulling everything out and pushing it back in through the f-holes.

is this just a thing of Tradition, or are there more practical reasons for it i haven't considered?

I know some of the old Teisco and other Japanese hollowbodies had access plates on the front and / or back and the Hofner basses have the controls on a removable plate.

My guess is the main reason many of them now don’t have an access plate is that the Gibson they’re copying didn’t have one.

that's my suspicion as well.

I'm half-tempted to just saw a hole in the back of one of my guitars and see if it improves my quality of life

For the fully hollow bodies, you might obtain easier access by removing a pickup.
