Control Cavity Covers

You just need to cut a 5mm thick piece of the whole block you're using for the body, before you start to shape it.
Then you have a thin board with a matching figure for pickup covers and cavity.
 
yea some people cut three pieces 'bookmatched' and use the third one for the cover...

That's what Alembic calls 1st cousin or something like that.

Simpler and less wasted wood is to drop cut it with an end mill and bind it:
