Control Cavity Covers

How do you make a control cavity cover using the same wood as the body, also I've noticed that these covers usually come from the exact spot of grain too. How do you do that?

You just need to cut a 5mm thick piece of the whole block you're using for the body, before you start to shape it.
Then you have a thin board with a matching figure for pickup covers and cavity.

They are taken from an extra piece of wood from the same blank the body/back was made from.

yea some people cut three pieces 'bookmatched' and use the third one for the cover. ive also heard of laser cutting so you can use the same piece, very convenient, but im sure it costs a lot.
