Convertable bass (fretted/fretless)

Bump....
Old thread but I just saw it now on youtube. First I'd ever heard of it...

I hope the search Nazi's are happy that I went ahead and did a search before I started a new thread.

Has anyone tried these things?? For $5k they had sure better sound nice and last a while...

Here's another old thread where someone claims that "this has been discussed before" but does not offer any links.

If these things sound good and hold up well I think they would be pretty much in demand. So what's the downside to them?

Thoughts?

This one shows up from time to time. Ultimately this one probably won't catch on since it's cheaper to have a nice fretted bass and a nice fretless bass.

A logistical snag is that the action is very high in fretless mode since you need to set it up with action in the fretted mode. A fretless can generally have the strings much lower to the fingerboard than any fretted bass.

that! I'd rather have 2 basses, each set up to function like it is supposed to.
