Converting 4x10 into a 2x10?

One of my speakers in my 8 ohm 400 watt 4x10 over-extended and now it sounds like . I found 2 800 watt 4 ohm speakers on CList for very cheap. I've got the very minimal experience working with speakers but is there anyway to take out all of my speakers, since they're 8 ohm friendly, and put the 2 4 ohm 800 watt speakers in they're place, leaving two open holes?

2 800w 4ohm speakers sound like car woofers. They won't work so good, but probably no worse than what you have now if it's a no name cabinet.

it would help if you could provide more info

1) The brand /model of the 4x10 cab
2) The brand/model of the drivers in the cab
3) The brand/model of the drivers you're thinking about buying

I would replace the blown speaker. The cab wouldn't work right with just 2 speakers.

I tried this.. did not believe the advice.. made a mistake.. then bit the bullet and did the physics to do it right.

IT sucked.

Spend the money buying quality drivers to load the cabinet or buy a quality cabinet.

Cheap, in general, equals cheap. People will argue this to death, but spend the money on a decent quality cabinet, and you will most likely not have to worry about reinvesting the money again.

I have been there, and its hard, but it is worth spending the extra on something that will last. Check out CL and see if someone is dumping something for cheap.

Especially when it comes to cabs, cheap is cheap. Skimp on anything else, but not the cab. Take a crap bass and amp and plug it into a great cab, and it will sound great. Take a great bass and amp and plug it into a crap cab, and it will sound crappy.

Yes,...never skimp on your speaker cab. And the plan you have won't work anyway. Just replace, (or re-cone) your busted driver, if it's a decent cab, or sell it and start over if it's not.

No. Open holes will detune the cabinet, which must be tuned to the drivers used. As for the 800 watt driver rating, in and of itself that means nothing, while an 800 watt rating on the cheap probably indicates junk drivers with phony baloney ratings.
