Audacity isnt really doing it for me in the effects department and from what Ive heard both these programs seem to be good there. Anyone have any prefrences as to which to use and possibly know of a zip file of the program? Id rather not spend forever downloading.

Cool Edit Pro or Protools free

IIRC, you can only have 8 channels in ProTools Free. So if anything you're doing is going to use more than that, you're better off with Cool Edit.
In my opinion, Pro Tools does a better job of real time processing for FX compared to Cool Edit.

this is just for solo bass so I wont need more than 8 tracks. Anyone know of zipped or compressed files of these programs?
Keeping in mind of course that Pro Tools Free will only run on Windows 98 or Windows ME. Definitely not XP.
yeah I figured that out yesterday. I need the cool edit pro files in a zip file. Plus I only really need it for good reverb chorus compression etc. so Im not so worried about the difference in running effects in real time.
Ive tried and they suck. I used cool edit pro in a friends home studio and the effects were much better sounding and way easier to use.
