I've used Gary's method on both my Carvins (fretted and fretless) and they became very pleasant to play - for a change!

For the longest time I treated set-up and intonation as "black magic" that I needed to "have done" by a pro for $50 every 6 months.

Gary takes the mystery out of the procedure - and now I'm at the stage where I'm totally comfortable making bi-monthly micro adjustments to keep playabilty in the sweet zone.

Don't fear your truss rod - just respect it.

I post that manual quite often to newbies when they ask about setup. I thinks it's the best on the web, it's put together very well, so even the newest bassist can understand how to do a setup.

Gary Willis rocks when it comes to instruction!

Maybe, but most (maybe all) of the pro luthiers and technicians on this site do not recommend the Willis guide. Some of the advice can be misleading. But most do recommend the Drozd guide:

Thanks. I will check it out. I own a Gary Willis Bass and have followed his guide before with a very playable bass as a result. I'll see if this guide will get me there as well.
