Cort Curbow slap switch question

So my question is basically, is this thing working right?

I just bought a used Cort Curbow 5-string off ebay with the Bartolini (not the Mighty Mite) electronics. This bass has a "slap switch" which rather drastically alters the tone.

The concern is that in one switch position the three-band tone controls work, but in the other position they don't to anything at all. Is it supposed to be this way? I've tried quite a few settings of the adjustment pots on the back, but nothing seems to bring the tone knobs into play in the one switch position.

Anybody?

[edit] The bass described above has a volute on the neck behind the nut. Incidentally, I have a fretless version of the Curbow bass with Mighty Mite electronics (no neck volute), and the tone controls work in both switch positions.

Do all "slap switches" work the same way? I'm thinking specifically of the Squier Deluxe Active 5.

I doubt it- Warwick FNAs(NOT *later FNA/Jazz*)had a *slap switch*(actually a pull-pot on the volume)that engaged a mid-cut/bass & treble boost. IIRC the 3(4?)-band EQ still worked while in slap mode. That said, I guess it's possible that all of the aforementioned slap ehancers lean toward the mid-cut/scoop thing, which seems to be a semi-standard *slap* deal for most.
