Cost Effective 6 String (Under $800)

Once again I'd like to thank you all for your help.

So far the update is as such. I have let go of the Peavey because Diablo was right. The B is weak. The ESP I saw were out of my price range locally and the LTD's were OK but I felt something was missing. Unfortunately I lost out on the MTD before I got to try it. I was thinking of the trying the Tune but I felt they were firm on the price so I passed. All in all decent equipment but there is one that beckons me. So the pursuit is on. If it happens I will tell you all the moment she is in my hands.

I agree with most of the advice. 6 string basses that are great bang for buck in your price range if you are buying new are Yamaha, ESP LTD and Ibanez. I own two of those. ESP is killer craftsmanship and playability. They tend to be quite heavy, however, and I find the tone a bit "standard". Not bad, mind you, just standard. I've got two Ibanez: GSR206 and SR506. Both are killer basses. Best things are neck feel and tone. I prefer the SR506 because it's 24 frets and it's a bit better built, but the tone on the GSR206 is just amazing so I keep them both. Ibanez has lots of models to choose from. Just go as high as you can afford. You won't be sorry. As for Yammies, I own no basses, but they are VERY underrated instruments. Quality, tone, feel all great for the money. They don't appeal to me because of their wide string spacing. So there are lots to pick from and use your own preferences.

Just got my MTD Kingston Z 6-string about 2 days ago. They can be had used for about $800. This one is new, but only because I got a very very good deal. So fat, I like it a lot. The asymmetrical neck is a very valuable feature, neck is thinner/flatter in the upper registers. Great tone, playability, and looks.

Well I just got the bass I wanted for the price I could afford. And the winner is.... The Ibanez Terra Firma 6 String. I wanna thank you all for your help especially Mike for pointing her out and Ddawg for letting her go. I will try to post a pic this weekend cause she is a beaut.

Hello Everyone,

This will be my last post for this thread and I just wanted to thank everyone for all the help and comments once again.

I've got to say I am very happy with the Terra so far. The form factor is very comfortable when playing and the string spacing makes it easier to play then what I first thought it would be. I love the range of octaves available side to side instead of up and down. I do need a lot of practice but between the build (smooth neck) and decent electronics I think I'm gonna have a lot of fun with this girl.
