Could a bad solder joint make my G string sound plunky?

I just installed new pups and pots on my 4-string and restrung it with Ernie Ball flats. Everything "seemed" go together okay but, while my E, A, & D strings sound great, my G-string seems to missing on the attack. The sustain is there but it doesn't ring like the other 3.

Whaddya think... could it be my wiring... a short... cold solder joint... bad pickup or bad strings... maybe I'm goin' deaf in one ear.

Try changing the way the string is wound around the tuner post.
I had a similar problem. YMMV.

More than likely your pickup needs to be adjusted on the G side - simply adjust the screws to raise it up a bit.

I've tried playing with how the string is seated at the bridge... how it passes through the nut... makin' sure it wasn't buzzin' out on any frets... it just doesn't seem to be a "physical" thing (unless it's the string itself)

As for the pickups... that was the FIRST fix I tried (figuring maybe it was a magnetic field issue). As I adjust 'em... it's just the same crappy sound, only at a different volume.

Gimme something else to consider.

How does it sound when you put on the 'old' G-string? Same=electronic/PU problem, better=get other flat-G.

Does it sound the same way when unplugged? If yes, it is very possible you got a defective string, it happens.
