Could I or should I?

We finally got some cooler weather in Oklahoma and I’m in the garage playing with my $99 BAM200. It works pretty good with the Peavey 2x10 below and then i remembered I had a pair of old Fender LTB 10 inch PA speakers and decided to try one of those. And it worked pretty good also. Now I’m thinking maybe put a four ohm Eminence BP 102 in that little box and bypassing the tweeter. I know nothing about cabinet volume requirements and such. This wouldn’t be a performance rig, just practice, rehearsals, and informal jams. Sorry about the background junk in the picture, just wanted to show off my Felix bass. I already know I could, so I guess the only question is “should I”?

In the guitar world pretty much any speaker in any cab will work fine. Bass is a whole other thing. Bass cab design is very specific to the speakers being used in the cab. There is a bunch of S.T.E.M. involved. Without going through that or following a preset design, or at the very least saying I have such and such cab, are there any replacement speakers that would work well? It's all a crapshoot.

Good thing you had the presence of mind to ask first.

I pulled that out of my dad’s barn a couple years ago. Cleaned it up and put on new tires and it turned out to be a pretty good tool. Don’t think I could put a price on it.

I'm eyeing up that rolly stool, that looks pretty nice for working on old cars!

I'm sure the BP-102 would sound better than what's in there. It's just a matter of is it worth the $115 upgrade and who knows if you'll like it. And it's still just a single 10 which is limiting.

Get two of the BP-102 8s and build a lightweight ported 2x10 box with that band saw! Then you'll have something that'll keep up with a drummer. Haha, I'm no help in discouraging people, I love projects.

The BP102 is the opposite if what you want. It has low sensitivity (needs big power to get loud), has very subdued mids (hard to hear articulation), can play deep bass loud, but only in a very big cabinet.
It will be hugely sub obtimal in that tiny, cheap PA cab.
