Could this actually be an answer for my Disposition-prayers?

Now, I'm a bassist, and my favourite song is Disposition, which means....
I've been looking for the Bass Whammy everywhere for the 5th up/ 1 up-setting.
But the Bass Whammy is extinct. EXTINCT. I don't want to pay a thousand dollars for it on Ebay either, so I needed to find a solution elsewhere.
Just the other day, I ran into this product from Digitech, Digitech BP200:

And it has the option for the 5TH^/Oct^-setting!!

Can this finally be the long-awaited answer for my prayers, can I actually play disposition with this effect pedal? It has everything it needs, the 5th-up/1th-up Whammy setting and an expression pedal. And this product comes from Digitech, the makers of the Bass Whammy, so it should work fine. I read the pdf manual from their site and it says that it has the setting, also some website said that this has the Whammy setting for Disposition.

Can anyone enlighten me, does this do the job? Experiences?

I hate to say it, but in my experience with the Digitech multis, the whammy settings on them don't track nearly as well as a real whammy, and have some lag to them. Also their bypasses suck major tone from what I recall.

I used a BP200 for over a year, and I'm also a huge Tool fan, so I'll chime in here.

My feel of the whammy on the BP200 is that it tracked higher notes just fine, but it really sucked on lower notes. So, to answer your specific question: yes, you can play disposition with the BP200 and it sounds fine. However, if you try to play whammy parts on the low D, such as Lateralus or Third Eye, it sounds like crapola. All of this is IMHO of course.

You saved me and my day, I've always wanted to play Disposition like Justin(in your avatar btw^^) plays it!
I can't wait to get my hands on the pedal. And I don't have an urge for playing Lateralus like I have for Disposition(OFC I like Lateralus, and I've played it a lot, but I don't have an URGE to play it with a whammy like I have for disposition). I can play all the parts of Disposition, but it lacks whammy. And If this indeed does it, I'm in heaven!

So can you really get effects like this on it?


BTW, what are the other effects being used after 1:05 on the song? The effect that gives that kinda rough tone for the bass? Any other effects?

I've been looking at these lately, so I'll chip in here - try and hunt down an old Digitech XP100 Whammy Wah, they go for a lot less than the whammys but I hear it can do the Oct +5th mode you so desperately seek!

Believe it or not, the only effects in this song are delay and whammy, both of which the BP200 can do. Set the delay to Digital and as for the delay time, I think Justin's is set at around 300 ms. The rest of the sound is just the incredible tone that a Wal bass gives you. You're not getting that growl with just any bass. Maybe Brad (He goes by WalBassPlayer around here) can give some pointers about how to get it, but generally the advice given is just crank the crap out of your mids.

Now I'm just a while away from a Digitech XP-100. I'm probably getting it in the next few weeks after I've bought it from a forum-friend who's on vacation at the moment. When he returns, he said that he could probably sell it for me, as I need it more than he does.

So, anyone owning a Digitech XP-100? Does it play Disposition well?

I used to own a xp 100. It was a little too worbly for me so I sold it because I needed the money. I definitly wish I coulduve hung on to it, even though it dident track as great as the bass whammy. Id definatly get it over the b200. Everone ive ever talked to who has had it said the whammy sucks on the bp. It kind of goes like this: Bass Whammy. WH4, XP100, BP200. The whammy 4 is the best besides the bass version in terms of tracking, exept it doesnt have the 5th/oct up setting...

For disposition, yes it works pretty well. However as bigchief said about the BP200, the tracking on the low end isn't nearly as good. Playing Lateralus, The Pot, etc is possible, but the tracking can get pretty warbly.

However considering Disposition is played only on the D and G in Whammy mode, it tracks pretty well.

I'm not a big Tool fan, but I'm familiar with the 5th/Oct dilemma from reading these forums. I always wondered what would happen if you took the oct down/ oct up setting on the Whammy IV and just located the spot in the sweep where you're a fifth up. Then you could create some sort of wedge under the pedal to stop your sweep at that point. I haven't used a whammy but I figure the biggest problem with that would be that the pedals sweep would be severally limited with this technique. Just a thought...

I've used a PS-3 for my Disposition needs. I imagine a PS-5 might work ok as well, so keep that in mind.

However, unlike the whammy the PS-3 (Possibly the 5, dunno never tried it) doesnt sound good with distortion, IMO. I don't know if that matters to you.

Anyway, just tryin to give cheaper options. (Though I'm not sure how much PS-3s are right now)

The PS-5 can't be set to sweep between intervals like the PS-3, unfortunately. The initial interval is always the dry signal's pitch.

It can sound cool with some distortion, but it sounds nothing like the Whammy. And IMO, Whammy + distortion is a beautiful thing. :)

Well he's buying a BP200 just for playing Dispostion. He'll be tired of how crappy it is in about a month or two.

Hello guys, it's only been 6,5 years! But I never forgot about this thread <3... so I decided to necrobump it!

Because a piece of news had completely escaped me!

This news' gotta be ancient to you guys, seeing that it was unveiled much earlier this year. How I've managed to miss this, is completely beyond me. But the point is; this is a day of f'in celebration. I've done well with my XP-100, but it could never track the lowest parts of Lateralus and even Disposition showed signs of weak tracking. But now, on the year of our lord 2014, on this planet Earth, I'm FINALLY.... finally... getting the tone which inspired me to start playing bass in the first place!
