Craigslist: Guitarists no Longer Posting

Nah, thay all came up to LA. Maybe you can convince a couple to migrate down your way!
I think we're having trouble since we don't fall into any of the four basic food groups of original bands down here:

a) death metal (east county)
b) Sublime rip off (beaches)
c) punk (suburbs)
d) indie dance rock (downtown, uptown)

So, even when a guitarist is available, we're probably not a good match.

It's a fairly humbling feeling when you can't find a guitarist for your band on craigslist.:hmm:

Ive never been able to find a guitarist I could work with via CL. I did, however, happen to find a synth player who I wor really well with. He brought in another synth playing friend and eventually a drummer he knew as well. Our guitarist was originally a bassist who took up guitar for some reason. And all the drummers we jammed with stuck around for a little while before we had to fire them.

We also dont fall into any of those categories bandwise. Though I have recently seen more listing on CL for the kind of music I do with my band, improv/psychedelic/noise rock sort of acts. I wonder if theyve caught one of my shows and said 'we should just go make all our **** up like those guys do!'... probably not.

I'm listening to you right now and I'd describe you as the sound of aliens abducting just my brain. Agreed, that's a fairly difficult position to fill using only the dregs of Craigslist.

I've actually been toying with the idea of whether it'd be easier to pick up a bassist and switch over to guitar.:hmm:

I'd say thats a good thing...

Its no easy task, for sure. Maybe talk to every musician you know and see if they know anyone looking to play your kind of music?

Thanks. Giving that a look through.

Is there a "catch" that requires payment anywhere throughout the process?

No fee just to post a profile. Then they PM you a phone
number when they contact you. You can upgrade for more options. I got 3 hits in a week and the guys sent me telephone numbers. 1 worked out real well. I paid nothing.

Yeah. We've been doing that too. Everyone knows a guitarist, but when we specify that we're looking for a "good" one, they usually don't have anyone to recommend.:hmm:

Just joined up. Thanks for the advice.:)

You forgot to mention that massive amount of carbon copy death metal bands down south in IB that never leave their house shows they play. Of course the Sublime clones do a pretty good job at staying around mission or pacific beach area.

I'm a little biased towards north county in my travels, so I can't easily stereotype so. bay. From what I've seen though:

a) they're invariably 18 or younger.

b) they tend to like it heavy.

IME every guitar player who can play and/or sing and who has his stuff just half ass wired tight, has a gig.

I've looked at tons of CL guitar players and they either lack chops, vocals, any real experience, or any hint of stage presence.
