Truck? Truck? Try Honda Civic. If you are looking at my current ad, you ain't seen nothin'. The previous ad listed what it was and how big it was, and that was about it. The ad then grew, with seven edits, as the local populace showed up. I had to tell people not to bring their 9-year-old daughter to help lift it. I had to tell one guy that it would not fit in his Civic. I had to tell a lady that no, they could not use my electricity to power their circular saw to cut the thing into smaller bits - and I wasted a lot of breath trying to explain to her that a railroad tie, dimensions given in the ad as roughly 9.5"x7", won't cut through with a circular saw. She said 'But it has a 7-1/4" blade!' and I wanted to scream. So I hung up instead.
People have wanted to roll it, drag it, lift it, or get me to lift it. First guy to appear had one arm in a sling and said 'Could you help me get this onto my ladder rack?' No. Dude has an F-450 with a ladder rack, but nothing to pry it away from the foundation with, and apparently no friends. Certainly no brains.
I'm amazed at how many people have come, said, 'Oh, wow, that's a big one' and left after discovering they couldn't budge it. These are the same people who on the phone say they WANT the length for their landscaping project. What did they think it was going to look like?
I was going to say a Civic but gave them too much credit.
Hopefully they do not cause damage trying to get this out.

At least nobody's shown up in an Accord. Those are always stolen. Maybe the same people are stealing them from each other all the time. Seriously, every day in the paper it's three more late-90s Accords stolen.

I've been known to show up alone, assemble my portable engine hoist (bought on CL, easy transaction) and put big, heavy things in my truck (also bought on CL, easy transaction), or on my trailer (also bought on CL, easy transaction). I've also been known to partially disassemble machinery (one of which was a giveaway on CL - someone cleaning out a house before sale, and they threw in a radial arm saw that wasn't even mentioned, though I passed on the weight bench) to get more workable parts for moving.

See, if you showed up alone (well, you and your self-sufficiency) I'd be ok with that. You'd be prepared. As long as someone is prepared to deal with the situation completely and competently, that's fine. Bit nobody is.

I think the 2700 mile drive there, and the 2700 mile drive back, might factor into my lack of need for your particular railroad tie.

blastoff99 - You might try the $100 price tag right on the tie, and be sure not to notice anyone who's stealing it now that it's valuable.
It's not so much that CL people are flakes, but that musicians are flakes. I had no problem moving a hot water heater and a hot tub. Any music gear I've ever posted has netted the same results you got, so I don't. Facebook actually has some very decent local music gear related pages and I've had luck there, plus there's always good ol' TB.
IME, the FB groups for selling stuff are even worse, but it might just be because people get outed on there.

Rumors coud be started that the railroads used to use ebony and pernambuco as railroad ties.
Just a single railroad tie? They sell those at Home Depot for $10 or something. You should look up your local price and double that, then repost the ad. I've lifted railroad ties by myself before. It's not hard when you have a forklift.
IMO CL is usually more trouble then it's worth. Especially now with the popularity of reality tv. Everyone thinks they're the star of their own little Pawn Stars show.
