Crossover help!!!!

A friend of mine has a very tight budget and needs the speakers in her 2-15 cab replaced. I picked up a evm12L and a EVM 18 and I think it will need a cross over in it. I had individual 12 and 18 cabs I ran a long time ago and it was great, but I had a head that was bi amp able. With a crossover built in. I know it can sound great. But I'm so lost. I found this web site http://www.apicsllc.com/apics/Misc/filter2.html but I'm not sure what exactly to do. I guessed to cross it over at 60 hz. But that is only based on the 12 being capable of 7,000- 80hz not sure where to put the x point so that each speaker ends up the same volume. The l pads I've seen only run 100 watts. If I remember right the 18 goes down to 38hz. What are your thoughts?

The box will be sectioned off. I'm well aware that they could tear each other apart. I can and will give each speaker the appropriate space it needs the work welland not destroy each other. That's not what I need help with. It's where to cross them over and how to end up with a 4 ohm load

I have owned several heads which had crossovers in them and to be honest, I have never noticed even the slightest different in sound when compared to running a head which had one power amp.

I'm wanting to protect the 12" speaker. She cranks the poopie out of her Rig. Played with heavy distortion. I'm a bass player. I love these speakers. They have the voice she is after. I got them for a steal, $30 for the 12, $50 for the 18. I know they can work well together. Same dbl rating. Do I need to cross them over? I'm just afraid she will blow this 12. She likes a LOT of bass.

I'd go ahead and try them both full range first, but if anything you might have to low-pass the 18 because it has a big spike at right around 1Khz. This might sound awful. You might be able to tame it with amp EQ. But it just so happens that the 12 shows a big dip in the same spot. Further, the 12 has a bump at 700Hz where the 18 shows a dip. In other words their bumps and dips are complimentary. How this will sound in actual practice is anyone's guess, but it might work out OK.
Hi pass the 12? Probably not needed but if you really want to I'd guess 100Hz would be about right since that's where it falls off a cliff anyway. These are extremely uneducated guesses. It's more important you get the box volumes right.

Correct me if I misunderstood, She originally had 2 X 15" speakers in one cabinet, so why would you purchase one evm12L for $265.00 for a
200 watt speaker, and a EVM 18" which should have cost in the $400.00 range ? Also if your speaker, and I do not know, however, I'm guessing the 12" would have a frequency response of 80 - 7Khz. Unfortunately, I do not open up links from others unless I already know the contents. I do not understand why you are going to mount these two speakers in the same cabinet. ??

There is a big difference in power and tone when using a passive crossover. Speakers are capable of reproducing certain frequencys and by sending in a wider signal will eventually damage your speakers. What is the exact total wattage you intend on sending through these two speakers ?
There are several crossovers you can use. It is just a question of what frequency you make your crossover point and how much money you want to spend. For low cost, I would use the pxb2-500.
For cabinet ready at a higher cost px2-1K6

At this point, nothing is in stone. There are other options for you.

Downunderwonder, you offer no help to this tread. Tubehead is looking for useful information. He stated: "But I'm so lost" That is a clear indication he is asking for help. I know from studying human behavior and profiling, people sometimes say one thing and mean something completely different. When have you heard specifications stated: "the 12 being capable of 7,000- 80hz" ? Give the man a break, he wants help.
So downunderwond, how would you advise 2behead to remedy the issue ?

is what caught my attention. Sometimes I feel it's just better to leave it alone and find another discussion.
