Crushed copper finish

I've been coveting the finish on this body for a while

but, I will not spend $500 on a body, when I've got an MIM jazz body that is dying for a makeover. Also I'd be doing a fretless ebony neck, black hardware and PG. So my question simply is: How?

That's another problem with it to me. But I'm in love it, but not quite enough in love with it.

I also want a matching headstock, so regardless of whether I bought the body, I still want to know how to do this.

this looks similar to a technique we use in airbrushing to give things a marble look

hold on a sec i'll see if i can find a link or an example coz its kinda hard to explain without pics

ok a quick run down of how its done thanks to another fellow airhead

To marbleize Auto air,
Lay down your base color,
usually base coat dark or light, and cure well, then
lay down a heavy wet coat of
the color you want to marbleize, usually black, white silver, as long as it
contrasts with the base color, and quickly lay a sheet of plastic over the wet paint, move the
plastic around, pull the plastic up and replace it,
etc, until you get the pattern you want. If the paint dries too much before you get done, sprtiz a TINY BIT of water on and keep going, once you have the pattern you're after, cure the whole mess (I do mean mess) very well, as th paints adhesion will be
lessend slightly. once cure come back and spray
your candy or trans topcoat. My favorite effect is to use the Sparklescent
colors over a black base and marbleized with metallic white..really pops out at ya...

Almost looks like gold leaf, but - copper.

Warmoth will do either front or back routing. I think people get these bodies front routed out of habit. With a finish like that, though, they should be smacked.

For some reason I'm sure that is grain figure of the top showing throught that stain/dye. And I'm pretty sure it really is either rub'n'buff type finnish with clear coating or copper dye. But really, I think that is not copper leaf, it wouldn't look like that.

Sorry, can't tell you how to do it either but that body looks phenomenal. Man, that looks fine.

cant contribute, but the plan you have for that bass is jaw dropping.
