csb380 strings

HELP,, i have this csb 380 ( blue ) ,,, and i dont know why kind of strings to put on it ,, lots of conflicting information out there about if its short scale ( 30" ) or medium scale 32" / 32.25" / 32.50" ,,, i see medium scale strings are up to 32" ,,, so if the csb 380 is 32.25 or 32.50 ,,, wouldnt medium scale strings be the wrong size,,.
i am all fugged up ,,,, HELP

Do you have the bass handy?

The first step in finding out what length of strings your bass needs is to measure the distance on your bass from where the ball end on the E string is seated to where the string clears the nut. That would be the minimum "winding length" you need. "Winding length" refers to the fully wound part of the string from the ball end to where the it gets thinner at the tuner end.

Get the measurement for me and I'll help you find the right string for your bass.

I'm not talking about the "scale length" on the bass, which is the distance between the saddle and the nut. I need the measurement from the ball end on the strings to where it clears the nut to determine what "winding length" your bass needs.

When it comes to finding the right string for any given bass, "winding length" is more important than "scale length".

The 32.5" scale length limits the choice of strings that fit properly. Long-scale strings with a 37"-ish wind work pretty well, with a bit of the fat part of the E winding onto the post. Most medium-scale strings are just a smidge short, with the silk or taper landing on the nut. But two brands have a perfect fit: Thomastik-Infeld (their so-called short-scale sets) and GHS medium scale sets. I used medium scale GHS Precision Flats on a CSB-300, and they were a great fit all around (including tonally); I later switched to TI Jazz Rounds (yes, rounds), and they were absolute perfection for that bass.

For the OP...

Most "medium" scale strings are 34" (give/take 0.5") in winding length (ball end to taper). TI's "short scale" and GHS' "medium scale" are both 35.5" in winding length.

As I mentioned earlier, take the measurement I suggested earlier and see what's the minimum "winding length" your bass needs.

EDIT: "Medium Scale" by Rotosound is 35.25" in winding length, which should be long enough as well.
