Curious About Kingston

I've noticed some fairly flattering comments about Kingston basses on this site; frankly, until became a TBer, I'd never heard of them--despite some nearly forty years of playing and lusting after any number of basses. They look pretty good, and I am in the market for another fretless; are they any good? Or are they an SX or Brice type brand (not that they're not amazing for the money!). Any info appreciated. Thanks!

I received a kingston 5 two weeks ago, and absolutely love it! (I just got an SX fretless Jazz 5 too.... drats you TB'ers and your infectious GAS).

At this time, I don't even much care for my SR5 anymore. Maybe it's the wider string spacing (it feels kind of like a 5-string version of my Sterling). The Kingston is sweet. I bought it blemished from MF, and it in fact was blem when I got it (definite signs of an amateur setup.. and a couple of scuffs, but I got it for $297 shipped). A proper setup and it now is great.

I'll try to post pics of both later. If you get a chance to try one, do so. You'll be very surprised.

Absolutely fantastic for the $$ but for me, I am starting to want something that costs a little bit more now. I should learn my lesson and just buy something once that I like rather than trying to buy several cheaper basses.

The bass plays great. Very small, fast neck that is perfect for me. The electronics are anoying b/c they boost the signal ALOT when you boost the bass or mids. (Kinda like turning the volume up all the way everytime you boost the EQ)

BUT, like I said for the $$ you cant beat it. I may rip out the stock electronics and put an Aggie pre in there to rectify my biggest issue with it.
