Custom bass on ebay, unknown origin, anyone recognise it?

Well that's what I thought. And now I see the seller has another very similar for sale. But will not tell me anything about how they got hold of them or who made them. So maybe cheap chinese manfufactured? With the pickups hidden out of sight.

I smell a rat. 275.00 sterling, getting smellier.

I don't see the problem.

There's nothing outrageous about the price, both sapele and meranti are cheap over here. Using laminate strips to make the neck lowers costs even more, I'd be surprised if the timber reach £40.

Generic hardware, £26 for bridge and tuners.
EMG style humbuckers £20. Buy in bulk and the 3 band EQs cost £6.50 each.

Call it £100 in parts/materials. Bass has 2 bids at £280 with 2 hours to go.

If the fella enjoys building basses then nearly 200% up is a good reward for his time :)

Exactly. Going fretless saves time/effort, too, keeping costs down. If this guy is cranking out decent basses in his basement, more power to him!

If he got a pallet of half decent China built basses cheap, and is just drop shipping them, I don't really have a problem with that, either.

He's got a good eBay profile, so I don't think he's ripping people off.

Volker exactly my thoughts.

There's a retired fella just up the road from me builds guitars. He has a shed, tools and plenty of time, even more important is it's a pastime not a business so no pressures.

Pretty sure he charges £200 for these Dave Hill Super Yobs.

w00t! I like that! I wonder if he'd make a 30" Bass Yob?

That control cavity cover plate...what happened there? Everything else looks nice, it’s got a good overall vibe, and then, what?

A cover plate in a different wood with the grain 90 degrees to everything else? Weird.

No idea where that came from or who made it.
