"Custom" Jazz bass

Hi,

I'm planning on buying a cheap bass and "rebuilt it" entirely. Defret it, refinish, change pickups , change headstock, etc. to make a whole new bass. I wanna put Dimarzio Model J pickups in it but I want to try something.

I want to move the neck pickup, even closer to the neck than usual, and move the bridge pickup forward too.

My question is , will there be a sound problem if i put my neck pickup very close to the neck,( maybe 3/4 inch ).

No. It will just sound "bassier." I've done the exact same thing and it really sounds like a P bass with the tone rolled off a bit.
