Details

I have recently been diagnosed with cancer and I'm going to have to try to liquidate most all of my basses to help cover the cost of my surgery and treatment. As a result I will be listing several basses here on TalkBass over the next week.

This is a custom built Brooklyn 5 String made by luthier, Hajime Hirose in Japan as part of a joint venture with Ken Smith. Hajime personally builds each of the Ken Smith Hadrien Feraud Models. He is a "world class" luthier with amazing skills!

Here's a link that references Hajime and these custom Brooklyn basses he builds!

I bought this bass new for over $3K from Brian at The Low End in 2009. It's a true boutique 5 string jazz bass along the lines of a Celinder, Alleva Coppolo, Sadowsky NYC or Fodera.

Here are the specs:

  • Hardrock Maple Body (from Ken Smith's In-House Exotic Wood Lumber Yard)
  • Flawless Daphne Blue Polyurethane Finish
  • Matching Headstock
  • High Gloss Finished Maple Fingerboard (from Ken Smith's In-House Exotic Wood Lumber Yard)
  • Nordstrand Custom Wound Hum-Cancelling Pickups (60's Spacing)
  • Nordstrand Active 3 Band Preamp w/Master Tone and Active/Passive Switch
  • Hipshot Hardware
  • 34" Scale
  • 18mm String Spacing
  • 1 3/4" Nut
  • 9 Pounds, 15.2 Ounces (on my Digital Scale)
  • Custom Black Tolex Vintage Style Hard Shell Case

All in all, a completely remarkable instrument with no issues of any kind. And, the tone is totally "off the charts" and what you would expect from an instrument of this caliber. This bass has been babied all it's life and it's in virtually mint condition.

$2,100.00 OBO Shipped and Insured in the CONUS!

Trade value is still $2,500.00

Thanks for looking.....

He is indeed. He's always been very responsive to my inquiries and questions. I'd love to meet him someday!

Yeah, sorry Dan, I know you have always been interested in this one. I still think it would work for you from what I know about your style of playing and the instruments you have liked in the past. Give me a shout if you want to talk about it.

I spent my gig last night thinking about what I can move to get this...

Just the fact that a pro like Dan Lutz is interested in owning this bass should be enough to get some of you other guys off the fence. Dan has played Laklands, Nordys and Low End basses and this bass is every bit their equal. And IMO it's quite a bit nicer.....

I'll even knock $150.00 off the price ($1,950.00 shipped) if you prefer it with a gig bag instead of the HSC!

Width at last fret & hum cancelling are SCs right? Not hum canceling humbuckers? And radius would be important as well.

The pickups are hum canceling single coil Nordstrands. The fingerboard radius appears to be 15" according my radius gauge. The width of the fingerboard at the very last fret is: 2 13/16".

For the uninitiated, Spencer is the guy you WANT to do business with. Why? He's really picky when he buys something and he's very realistic when he sells it.
This bass is prob the best sleeper deal out there. Do it.

Thanks for the kind words Flipper. I am indeed picky but I do try to be realistic as well. And yes, this is truly a killer 5 string jazz bass. It's hard to let this one go but I must.....
