I wonder how close it sounds to a Stingray? Interesting he seems to basically wanted his same Jazz bass with a Stingray configuration.
Doesn't sound too much like a 'Ray...I have a jazz with MM pickup, though passive. His pickup is probably 1" further away from the bridge than mine, but I doubt it would Make it sound any more 'Ray-like. It definitely has more bottom and snarly mids than a standard Jazz bridge pickup...but without the 'Ray preamp it won't sound like it.
It seems that Flea pretty much likes that pickup configuration, no matter the body style. I do, too.

I think the story was Flea wanted a MM/EB sig model and the company balked as they felt this would be stepping on other long-term endorsees. He bailed on EB, then Modulus, now Fender. Same bass, different brand names.
Saw them at a warm-up gig at a club around 2000 and Flea had a half-dozen seemingly interchangeable black Stingrays stacked up, ready to go.

It sounds like a cross between slightly more mellow version of his Modulus (for the obvious reasons) and a hot Stingray. I'm betting the Lakers bass will sound closer to the Modulus with the Lane Poor/Legacy pickup. It looks like the road worn has an Aguilar. Here's a bass heavy mix from when they played before the Rams game in October which I think gives you a pretty good idea as to how it sounds.

Very awesome basses. Look like they are built on the Custom Classic platform.
I would buy the pink Smith CS / Lane Poor in a heartbeat. Lane Poor pickups a in a class by themselves.
