This is by far the best instrument that I have ever had the opportunity to play, and it is quite frankly, one of the most beautiful that I have ever seen. Please see this thread for my detailed, initial impressions of this beauty, as well as more detailed pictures: NBD!! Custom Stambaugh - Beautiful Koa top
This bass has an absolutely massive sound, with a thunderous low B and piano-like clarity in all areas of the fingerboard. The tonal range of this instrument is outstanding and exhibits so much color, but what really moves me the most about it is its dynamic range and responsiveness. I am really lucky to have had the pleasure of owning this masterpiece for the last 3 years. However, I have specific tastes in sound/tone, and though I do appreciate this bass for its unique character, I've known that I've been wanting something else for quite a while now. That, and I am finally moving away from 35" scale basses. Please see below for more detailed specs.
Top: Figured Koa
Body: Figured Walnut (Chambered)
Scale: 35"
Neck: 5-piece maple and koa neck, with neckthrough construction
Fingerboard: Gaboon ebony fingerboard with detailed, abalone and pearl vine inlay (The inlay is also present on the truss rod cover)
Frets: 22
Nut: Gaboon Ebony
Tuners: Black Hipshot Ultralite tuners
Bridge: Black Hipshot A Style Piezo Bridge by Graphtec, 17mm String Spacing. I don't believe that the string spacing is adjustable.
Pickups: Hidden Aero MM pickup in the matching koa ramp. The placement for the Aero pickup is the 'sweet spot'.
Electronics: TCM 3 P preamp by Noll Electronic with passive mode (Push/pull volume knob). Custom, Gaboon ebony Knobs.
Weight: 9.1 lbs
Case: Custom TKL Case
Condition: Excellent (Minor, light scratches that are hardly noticeable). There is some minor belt wear on the back of the instrument from the original owner.
Brand new strings (Fodera Light Nickel 6 String Set) were added relatively recently. Additionally, the bass is set up with incredibly low action. Tuned B-C.
The price is $2500 SHIPPED CONUS. I am in no hurry to sell this bass. I am also not interested in any trades, as I have already set my interests on a different instrument. Please let me know if you happen to have any questions!
