Sure there is although not at the top of my list to be truthful. On the other hand I have gotten more then one comment/complement that some of my more abstract music sounds like whales singing.

Plus, like whale song, you can play the gig from a few miles away, given the right conditions....
Hi there! Reviving an oooold thread here, I know, but has anyone had any success finding a low F# (below low B) string for double bass? I have been watching some awesome Octobass performances on the 'tube lately, and thinking, like @Mudfuzz did, that with an EUB, the physics and ergonomics of it all won't need to be all that intimidating.
On the BG side of things I normally tune to low G (two full steps below B) on a 34" scale, so a low F# or even lower on an 42" scale should sound wonderful
(YMMV).
