I love and encourage the self reliance of the last post, as well as the other thread showing the results.
Cutting a steel endpin and switching to a different material, regardless of length, tend to be two different conversations: length vs density & overall mass. Many people feel that even if the overall mass is the same, the different material types will have a corresponding reaction due to how sound travels & responds.
The number one difference I've found with installing hundreds of endpins is that typically by the time someone comes in asking for help, their current enpin fit looks like a kindergarten class project with very poor contact. Cleaning up the tapered hole and then fitting anything better is noticeable.
So far, I've yet to take a Lucci meter to an endpin to measure the speed of sound through it but for this conversation it makes me want to. Then I want a bunch of samples and graph it out and take the first derivative and....science 'n data 'n sh!t like that...and then get ready to be called blasphemous and hit with alternative internet conspiracies from anti-endpinnerzzzzzz.....
Either way, endpins are easy & cheap. It is not like we are talking about a middle age crisis on what overpriced red sportscar to buy.
