D extension

Does anyone except Kubicki make a double bass style extension on the E string? It seems that you could reverse the headstock on a Fender style neck and extend the fingerboard out to D or maybe C beyond the conventional nut. This would allow you to play down low on a conventionally tuned four string. Hmmm...maybe a call to Rob Allen is in order...

Not that I can think of. Phil's idea was really cool at the time, along with Ned Steinberger's bass Trans Trem, although the advent of the 5 string bass kinda squashed both of 'em.

I still plan on getting a Kubicki sometime in the near future.

The x-Factor fingerboard design looks like it would be great for blues and gospel kinda stuff that uses flat keys or drop D guitar tunings. Unfortunately IMO the rest of the bass design doesn't look very "rootsy".

It's not very rootsy, but still very comfortable, which is what matters in my book.

Right on, a Kubicki owner chiming in here!

Stu coaxed "one" sorta tone from his Kubicki basses. I've heard people say they have no bottom, in which case, may I direct you to the sound samples courtesy of Vail Johnson at www.kubicki.com. He gets great tones from them too, and his albums are pretty cool!

That said, the bass doesn't look rootsy at all, but it works great for me in my fusion playing, and to be truthful, I love the 80's aesthetics! When I get it out of the case I still look at it in the mirror and think "Yep...."
