d string buzz

high guys, i have a 75 jazz, all original, even the original owner. the d string is starting to give me a buzz from about the 6th fret up. i noticed tonight that is is not as high as the a at the bridge. could this be what is causing the buzz? how high off if the fret should it be? i run a medium flat wound string.
any help would be great. thanks

I usually set mine up 1/8 inch from the 8th fret though it varies from bass to bass, also check your neck and see if the truss rod needs adjustment.
