Revive = what I try to do when I love the sound of the A, D, & G strings, but the E is too dead.
I love the sound of the 105 string in 45-60-80-105 set. It does have a bit of extra fundamental omph that IMO sits well in the music. I tune DGCF instead of EADG. I usually prefer somewhat "dead" strings. If I didn't, I'd probably not go for flats at all. Chromes do however have just enough definition to avoid being defined as muddy. When they settle, I find them not to be dead. I find that I can change the sound to what I want by selecting pickups, picking closer to the neck or bridge and also by using a pick. If you think your strings have only one sound, try to apply variations to your picking hand technique.
Does the long scale chromes work on 34 inch through body?

The actual winding length (ball end to silk) on the Chromes "long scale" is 37.1", if that helps...
They did on my fender jazz through body, but I don't like what the angle does to the chromes (they didn't break, but they're permanently bent).
44-64 is a 34" scale, right? If so, D'Addario Long Scale 37.1" winding length should be long enough strung thru body.
And if you were worried that the wound part would unravel strung thru body, as other poster have mention, Chromes could be strung thru body just fine. I've done it my self few years ago.
It looks like the flat wound strings sounds better on a P-bass. Is it because everybody is trying to imitate James Jamerson? Or is it really because the strings are a better fit for P-bass? I have tried the chromes and to me they sound better on p-bass. . I have a Geddy Lee jazz bass and for ten years i had a P-bass U.S.A.The chromes sounded good on P-bass (ecb 82, 45-105), but on the jazz bass they sounded weak (45-100).But when i'm going on you tube i see a lot of jazz bass players using chromes and they sound really good. Is it my perception or the way i hear that makes me think that it doesn't sound so good on a jazz bass? I play rock, funk ,motown ,music and i like slap bass i play old school songs. i would like to have a kind of flat wound string that last very long but sound good to do anything in any style including basic slap bass.
I think all basses with flats sound very similar, so you make perfect sense. I took the chromes off my jazz bass because they took away the "jazz sound". The precision has less of an exciting sound to me, so flats work pretty well. Rounds sound good too (think greenday, or whatever), so some even have a precision with flats and another with rounds. Flats aren't an all around string though, in my opinion. I ended up putting them on my peavey patriot, which is really bright, so the flats sound nice and clear. I don't think flats are super versatile, but it's a good sound, and if it's the only sound you need, all you need are flats 
I think i'm going to try to buy a p-bass but not an american model. I would like to try a Squier P-bass or vintage modified squire p-bass and then try some flatwounds on it. But i'm not too much a fan of the big p-bass neck. I would like to have your opinion on squire p-bass or modified squire p-bass ...of course the best thing to do is to go in a store and try one but i think having different opinions may help me .
While you're checking out the Squier models, you might want to try the Vintage Modified PJ as well. As far as I know the PJ comes with a Jazz neck. The Chromes would probably sound really good on one of them.
ok thanks for the info. I will try to check out those p-j vintage squires, if i'ts true i'm going to consider that p-j more than all others.
Just for what it's worth, there seem to be quite a variety of neck sizes, even within the squiers. I know the Eva Gardner has a skinnier neck (1.5 like a jazz?). I don't know about the Matt Freeman, etc. There are lots of them. I know my precision (american special) has a thinner neck profile (not jazz width though) and it's comfy. You'll have to do some research and see what you can find!
yes i know about the american special p-bass i had one and the neck is thinner and more comfortable compare to the original usa standard. i had to sell it because i needed money. But i think for a lower price i can get a squire who will do the job. In the pass i had a jazz bass squire paid only 300 $ used. I had that bass for 5 years i sold her to get a p-bass usa but at the time i was not playing at the same level as today that is why i came back to jazz bass( small neck, fast neck, more versatile tone) a p-bass with a small neck with flat wound strings would be a great complementary to my jazz bass with roundwound or if you guys have any suggestions ... i'm open

As far as I can tell, the squier vm precision p/j has a 1.625 nut width (jazz is 1.5). The only squiers that have both precision style pickups and a jazz width neck are the Jaguar and the Eva Gardener precision, at least that I can find.

I like Chromes a lot
I use them on a fretless '89 Jazz and a '76 Precision which has had the same set on for 13 years.
The 105E is great although TBF I have never tried the .95 set.

Today i had the chance to try many squire jazz bass and mexico jazz bass. I found that for 450,00$ canadian money the squire jazz bass a beautiful 3 tone sunburst made in indonesia model was very great sounding but she had roundwound strings. I d'ont know how she would sound with flats. But the best experience that i had was on a old American P-bass 74 black with black pick guard,maple neck with... guess what??? d'Addario chromes 45-105 it was amazing !!!(2450,00$ can money ) . The neck was big and thick but i was comfortable with it. I think i'ts due to the fact that when you have flatwound the tension is more relax for your joints and bones of your hands. That makes you forget the large neck. I played grooves from What's going on from Jamerson and i understood what it is or what it was. Also i had the chance to try those affinity model P-bass. For only 265,00$ i was impress but i saw an imperfection around the first fret 2nd string E flat something weird, but it sounded good .Classic P-bass tone, big and loud i wonder... would it sound good with chromes?Is it going to break in my hand after a year? Is it better to invest a bit more money and go with the squire at 400,00$?
