D'Addario...Flex Steels?

I don't find the FlexSteels to be significantly brighter than DR's. They seem to have more mid range and more punch. However I'm pretty certain they will destroy my frets a whole lot faster.

I think D'Addario has come up with a great new core wire. The outer wraps leaves me thinking I still prefer DR overall.

I didn't get that. Maybe it was the set I used but I don't think they were brighter than the DR's.

First thing. Jason delivers fast. Got my strings today, 2 days after ordering. I just strung up my Jackson Concert V with the fresh FlexSteels. I boought the 45-130s. They are obviously rougher than my usual Nickle XLs, but that doesnt bother me. I havent plugged it in yet but they dont sound as bright as the XLs to me. Thats not to say I wont like them because its all about how they sit in the mix. I have rehearsal tomorrow night and a show on Saturday night so that will be the test. I have to be disappointed in a D'Addario product though.

So had a rehearsal and a show with these strings. They sound great but seem to sit in the mix more than cut through it compared to the XLs. They have a great low mid growl in my opinion. However Im not a fan of the lower tension like I thought I would be. I felt like a string was going to break any second. I do primarily play with a pick. If I were a finger player these would be my strings. Maybe Ill give prosteels another shot as Im playing different basses since the last time I used them.

I've had flex steels on my g&l l2500 for about a month now, and so I'll put my opinion in!

I absolutely love these strings. I was using pro steels for a couple of years, and was relatively happy with how they sounded and felt, but flex steels bring that to a whole new level.

The sound:
I play rock finger style with a lot of sixteenth notes, and these strings lend themselves perfectly to that style. The tone is very well balanced, with a slight boost of the lowest frequencies, and a moderate boost somewhere in the midrange. If you love a raw sounding steel string, these could be exactly what you need!

The feel:
Expectedly rough (not grippy to me as I've been playing steels for awhile) and very slinky. Extremely easy to feel like you have control of the bass with these on it.

So if you love the sound and feel of steels, but have never exactly felt settled with your string choice, do yourself a favor and just buy a pack. They are fantastic.

I've had a set on my Cirrus 5 for a few weeks now, and have gigged probably 6-8 times with them. So far, I like them. Was using Chromes for the longest time, as they never die, but eventually started missing the zing you only get with rounds. Tried these on a lark, and so far, they seem to be just what I've been looking for- a string with the fundamental of flats, but plenty of zing on the top end. Only complaint I have is that the zing is somewhat hard to tame, when I need to, even with the treble control cut all the way. Looking for a work around. Other than that, I dig these!

Finally got a set of FlexSteels setup on my Music Man and don't really like them. Treble had to be cut heavily. Soooooo much finger noise. They feel like sticky sap soaked Rotos on my hands. Most abrasive steel I have ever played. Not as flexible as I would have thought and not as much tension as they need. Will keep them on to see if any wear in improves things. Maybe the MM just needs some classic steel. LaBella HRS were dope on it as was Sadowsky Blue's. Getting tired of string shopping.

I'm not sold on the flex steels either. Have them on my Yamaha. I think I preferred the good ole XL nickels on there. I had the nickels on my TL-Five and just replaced those with pro steels....what an improvement. I might try the pro steels on my Yamaha next and then make the final decision from there.
