Damaged '73

Hi everyone, I am new to talkbass , so i will pre apologize for my informalities. I need some input on a sensitive subject. I recently had taken my beloved73' Pbass in to get the neck straightened. I was not comfortable doing it myself. Local shop that i have dealt with for over 30 yrs said yeah, we can do that no prob. They had it for six weeks in a highly humidified room that fast-tracked the nirto into ageing . this happens when the humidity quickly changed..dealt with that. Had the pick up sponge replaced ,but left with striped sharp screws and a complete mess in the p/u cavity. So,after filing the screw heads down on the p/u's so i can play it, cleaning the p/u cavity (i hour). I find slots and spaceing around the neck where it used to be completly tight and perfect. i take the neck off to reveal that they had taken material away from the upper and lower neck side pocket area. To the tune almost 1/8". i brought it back to show them and ask them why they did this. They ar

Before and after pictures would be very helpful. The work described sounds suspect not to mention the damage to the finish. Frankly it sounds to me that they trashed your bass. I would be seeking restitution. Good luck.

I'm a repair guy and luthier and have straightened necks, but it does not involve moisture, and does not involve any part of the bass other than the neck. Unless it's a neck through, but yours isn't of course. Definitely put up some pics.

Baffling. Did they ever attempt to explain why? At the very least, its possible to do a pretty seamless repair. Sorry you had to go through this.

some shops should accept that they are in over their heads and keep their mitts off them......
im sorry to read about what happened,,,my tears would be welling too..:rollno: it would be hard to not kick the :poop: outta them for that..:banghead:
Yeah Man ! That was my first intention . Can you believe that they are still not admitting that they did it. They think they are in the clear. IF they dont admit it, then I think the authorities should be involved because its delibertate destruction . The guy tried to tell me " Look, It has been done a long time ago(brand new ash wood exposed) .......thanks for your input, much appreciated! cheers

Can we get more pics with the neck on up close to see how it fits there in the pocket. Hopefully it's playable and not totally defiled . This shop screwed you . They did everything they shouldn't have . Tell us the shop so we can all avoid them . I don't think you have much to stand on unless you have good pics of the "before" . I don't think the law can do anything there but best of luck .

Some pics. the neck falls right out when u take the screws out etc. no tapered fit anymore, just straight and flairred out on the under side(right side when upright). more worried about the exposed ash wood that they carved up,now not covered by the 47 year old nitro finish that surrounds the inner bass pockets every where ....They still say that nobody should have touched that for a major trussrod adjustment,in the same scentence say they didnt do it...wow..buddy said "Look ...it was done a long time ago" As he tries to rub the newly carved ash to make it dirty > Then he says "its perfectly strait.." not supposed to b straight ,you......its not staright, my neice could do a better job using a shovel for the knife ....ha.
