Theres been a lot of threads on here of how to repair the tape but what if I was going to replace it? Has someone done this before? If so, how did you do it? Im concerned on what to do around the input jack and around where the neck meets the body(I know to take the straps off).

I got one of the new Danelectro Hodads and the tape seems to be coming off already and I just want to know what to do when I want to replace it.

Thanks.

"On the vintage Danos the side binding tape was necessary to hide a seam in the body. On the newer models it's strictly decorative and keeps that vintage vibe going."

It is easy to replace.
You can get the tape here. Scroll down about half way and you will see the tape.

That tape isn't long enough for a longhorn. It's also nothing like the tape on my 60's DC-2, which was white, much thicker and had a pebble finish. Jerry Jones nailed it. I know because I had one of his longhorn basses. I found some to replace the tape on my DC-2, but I had to buy a lot of it, which turned out to be lucky, not only for me, but a bunch of guitar owners. I put it up on the Bay and have now supplied tape for 6 DC's (three to one guy), 2 Silvertones, two U-1's, 2 Telecasters and one longhorn. I found this thread looking for the exact circumference of a longhorn, since I don't have the JJ anymore and that longhorn owner was hazy about the dimensions of his guitar. I read the rules on your FAQ's, but am still not sure what one is allowed to post here, so won't paste the links. If anyone is interested, I assume you can PM me.

Cheers,

It's easy.

First take the neck off. It's very easy to do, just four Phillips-head screws (and just as easy to put back on--you can't over-tighten it). Unscrew the chrome output jack cover. You don't need to cut and resolder the wires. Wrap the tape around the body so the two ends overlap at the output jack, securing it with blue masking tape, being especially careful to get it flat and centered around the neck cavity. Trim the ends so they will overlap about 3/8" under the input jack chrome bezel. (When you reattach it, it will provide extra integrity for the tape ends.). Now mark the notch for the neck with pencil on the paper backing. Trim the end that will be under the output jack for a hole for the output wires. Take it off and remove the masking tape. Trim the cutout for the neck cavity with an X-Acto knife and steel ruler (best), or sharp scissors. Then remove a little over half the paper backing of the vinyl tape just past the neck cavity. Apply the tape to the neck cavity first, working your way around the guitar to the output jack. Now remove the rest of the paper backing and apply the other half of the tape, overlapping at the output jack, trimming it so it matches the hole on the other half. Screw on the output jack cover tightly. Screw on the neck tightly. Restring and enjoy. Will upload photos of my DC-2. Dan tape (1).JPG Dan tape.JPG Danelectro tape (5).JPG Danelectro tape (7).JPG
