Dano '63

So, has any one acually played the Dano '63 Bass?

I was thinking about it, but idk...

How is Danos usual quality?

Aren't danelectros famous for being built like...well cheap crap?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not "dissing" them (I WANT A SHORTHORN BASS BAD!!!) but, and correct me if I'm wrong here, the bodies are just plywood frames with a hardboard-type top with fabric stretched over the back. They use a stick for a bridge ("intonation?!?! what the hell is that?" ) and guitar tuners for the machine heads.

It's mojo and I love it but I wouldn't say the quality is the dano's defining characteristic

look into a Jerry Jones shorthorn bass. strong pickups and a real bridge. I have one and it is great.

No joke, I get more attention and more compliments on my 97 RI 59 Longhorn than any of my other basses, and those include, Sadowsky, Alembic, and Fender! There is magic in the design of this bass, be it semi hollow, the pickups or rosewood bridge and nickel nut. Dont know what it is, but it is! BTW, Flats are best for these basses.

I agree, They're masonite and plywood sure. but they sound great, play well, and are pretty well built considering the materials. Theres a certain magic to them that can't be explained. I just got a 90's reissue longhorn about a month ago and can't put it down. I considered changing the bridge to the adjustable, but I really feel it's perfect the way it is.

I considered a Jerry Jones, but I couldnt justify the price, for the few minor differences. I have no regrets about choosing Dano. In fact I have a 63LS reserved, and am looking for a shorthorn.

By the way the 63 reissues have the intonation adjustable bridge and upgraded tuners.

Edit: I use D'Addario halfrounds on mine.

Dano? Someone say Dano?
I love my Longhorn and I think the "unique" construction is what makes a Dano so cool and different sounding.
Plays itself, such a easy bass.
