Dark Star Vs. Jazz P/Us in 70 RI Jazz

So I just got myself a Fender 70s Jazz reissue and it has a beautiful midrange. The lower mid register, however, is a little weak, and the guitar itself sounds a bit thin because of it. Would switching to Dark Stars help this out? What do these things sound like in a J bass (Ive checked out the P bass clips on Basstasters, and the clips on the hammon website dont work on my comp)? I don't want to lose that great mid-range, as thats what I bought the guitar for- so keeping that scooped mid is a must- but again, I would like a little more depth to my tone... at least on this guitar.

Also, Would switching to DSs make it more difficult to cut through a somewhat complex mix? I have a hard time already, however I haven't tried the jazz out in a live situation yet (its been mostly P/J with a gnarly mid boost and its still kinda hard to cut), and probably won't get to for a few months. I would like to have this beast up and running by then

Ah, and I plan to keep this a passive bass.

Aight, what chu guys thinkin...
